RESOURCES AVAILABLE FOR VETERAN SUICIDE PREVENTION

Whether you are a veteran, servicemember, family member, or friend, you can make a difference in the life of a warrior who may be suffering.

The First Step is Connection

To begin, pick up the phone and call an individual in your life who is wearing or has worn the uniform. See how they are doing. Connectivity can facilitate honest dialogue, create a desire to stay in contact, and help define a viable path forward. It is not hyperbole to say a single call can turn a life around.

How to Know if a Warrior Needs Help

It can be difficult sometimes to know if a warrior needs help. Sometimes, that person may not even be able to explain what they are feeling. Each person’s situation is unique.

Here are a few signs to look for, noting that these may look different for different people:

  • A history of traumatic brain injuries from service.
  • Symptoms of post-traumatic stress.
  • Isolation from family and friends.
  • A sense of hopelessness for the future.
  • Difficulty sleeping, waking and fatigue, irritability, moodiness.
  • Physical ailments and pain that can manifest with depression.
